A software industry promotion law has helped create high-tech clusters in Argentine in the three main urban centers of Córdoba, Rosario and Buenos Aires, the "Paris of South America". That has attracted such companies as:

  • Walt Disney (DIS), Microsoft (MSFT), Peugeot, and Repsol (REP) seeking Web-site design and software developers.

Motorola (MOT) agreed to build a $40 million wireless software development center in Córdoba province.

Microchip giant Intel (INTC) made Córdoba home to its Argentina Software Development Center (ASDC). "The Argentine authorities understand that technology is an engine of growth, which generates competitiveness in the global marketplace," says Esteban Galuzzi, Intel's general manager for the Southern Cone region that includes Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay, and Uruguay.

Major Location for Call Center Outsourcing

According to a 2004 report by Datamonitor, the fastest growing offshore-outsourced Call Center market is Argentina.

IT players such as Hewlett-Packard (HPQ), Oracle (ORCL), Cisco (CSCO), IBM (IBM), America Online (TWX), and palmOne (PALM) seeking to consolidate their regional back-office and customer-service operations in Argentina.
